Unrest in Thailand continues

Thailand is not new to political uproars and loss of lives over politics. The latest political drama involves some people in cities including Bangkok rioting against the current government that has clear ties with the old regime that people got rid of. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is the sister of former billionaire Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra now in exile in Dubai. He has been convicted for corruption and is living in Dubai. But his influence on current politics in Thailand continues to create havoc on street of Thailand. The current Prime Minister is trying to give amnesty to her brother so that he can return to Thailand.

The country’s Parliament has been dissolved and new elections are scheduled for February 2014. Scores of protesters have been killed mainly in the capital, Bangkok. The government has solid supports from people living in rural areas outside Bangkok. Thai military is more powerful in civil matters in the past. However, so far it has been silent on the issue. Thailand is home to many multi-national manufacturing facilities and the country’s economic development is expected to suffer due to continuing turmoil. The latest forecast from various sources expects the country’s economy to grow by 3.1 for the year.
